Supermarket
survival guide by David Zinczenko with Matt Gould (editor-in-chief
of Men's Health mag.) is a book which is divided up into
categories from the supermarket:
pantry staples, frozen foods, cheeses, meats etc.
The
book begins with a chapter on Mastering the Market, listing
8 rules to try on your next shopping trip. In each section
name brand items and their fat contents, vitamins, calories,
and overall value are compared to each other. The benefits
of fresh fruits and vegetables are discussed. Many cooking
hints, shopping and money saving guides are mentioned,
as well as truths about cheeses and meats.
The
following recipe is from the book:
Grocery
list; 12" 100%whole wheat thin crust, 1 C Muir Glen
Tomato Basil Pasta Sauce, 2C Kraft Nautral Low-Moisture
Part-Skim Mozzarella Shreds, Hormel Turkey Pepperoni 1/2onion
sliced, 1/2C roasted red peppers, ½ C chopped green olives,
2 garlic cloves, minced, ½ tsp chili flakes 1(6oz) jar
artichoke hearts, 1C fresh basil
How to make it; Preheat oven to 400 Cover the crust
with sauce and then cheese. Sprinkle the remaining ingredients(minus
the basil) over the pizza. Bake for 12-15 min. until cheese
is melted. Top with the basil and serve immediately.
Makes
4 servings/cost per serving:$4.07
Per serving: 300 cal, 14g fat(6g saturated), 780
mg sodium, 22g carbohydrates, 20g protein, 8g fiber
